I find absolutely nothing in the source code hinting that MightyText (which was created by former Google employees) are abusing a Chrome 0-day (which is generally worth a decent amount of money) to show you ads on reddit. These ads appear as a notification in your system tray and it is obvious that they are coming from MightyText, they do not try to hide it. With that said, there are advertisements in MightyText, but not the ones you are showing in this post. It can also open and close tabs and windows, as well as navigate to new pages in existing tabs and windows. This item can see the addresses and titles of websites that you visit in tabs and windows. The only other permission MightyText requests is "Access your tabs and browsing activity". Do you have any actual evidence that MightyText is causing this? I'm willing to bet actual money that it is another extension or malware on your computer.Ī cursory glance at the permissions for MightyText shows that it has access to 4 websites: *., *.,, Neither imgur or reddit is in that list.
